The First Flights Short Film Fund is a premier international financing initiative designed to help emerging writers, directors, and producers test ambitious cinematic ideas before developing a feature film. The fund provides equity-free cash, premium Kodak 16mm film stock packages, professional post-production support, and international streaming distribution pathways for scripted or documentary shorts.

The fund targets early-stage shorts across any thematic space. According to the First Flights Grant Terms, the program supports "emerging filmmakers producing live-action and documentary short films" under 30 minutes in length. Additionally, selected projects "must plan to enter production within six months after the application deadline"
